Carolin Ott –  »The little Soul and the Strawberry« und »Theater Tonight«

I was lucky enough to be part of the kids4kids World Foundation between 2007 and 2009. As I am now finishing high school and approaching university life, I think of my experiences with kids4kids more and more often and I have come to truly appreciate how valuable they were in teaching me more about myself and others. Through kids4kids I not only gained in confidence as a pianist, singer and actor but learned that in order to make music one must stop thinking about what other people think and how it sounds and rather do what feels right. As I have recently completed my final oral examinations, I can say that the musical performances I have done, were incredibly helpful in shaping my ability to deal with pressure and to overcome fear.

One of the best things about kids4kids is having the opportunity to do something you love and thereby helping other people. I will never forget the day when we went to the Tabaluga House to bring them the instruments we had managed to buy with the money that we raised. The pure joy with which the children greeted us and the way in which a particular girl would not let go of me when I wanted to leave, was something that I will always remember.

In a world where some people are so much more fortunate than others, I think one of the most important things, is for those who do have the possibility to help, to do so and to do so with love. As the winner of the Bryn Mawr Award 2011, “for intense intellectual commitment, a purposeful vision of life and a desire to make a meaningful contribution to the world,” and the regional Young Woman in Public Affairs Award 2012, social service and projects like Kids4Kids, are still a very important part of my life. As a kids4kids alumni I can only recommend working with the organization, I gained so much knowledge about myself as an artist, I came to know amazing people and made some true friends and I gained the true satisfaction of making a small contribution to a bigger cause that each and every person should be contributing to.

k4k changed my life! The singing, dancing and acting we did was incredibly fun! I gained self confidence and developed my stage presence. All the experiences gave my life a richness and directed me on my musical path. But the best was that we could help other children. We got to see this first hand when we presented the Tabaluga youth with brand new, beautiful musical instruments.  I would never have wanted to miss my time with kids4kids.

I am an Austrian-born actress, singer and producer who works for stage, TV and film. I had the great privilege to be a guest singer at one of kids4kids World Foundation’s performances in 2006. It was a truly wonderful experience to be part of such an inspiring foundation and to be on stage with talented kids who grow with the experience to be on stage and learn to appreciate what it means to give.

After graduating from the Performing Arts Sudios in Vienna, I appeared in musicals throughout Europe, including: West Side Story, Some Like it Hot, A Funny Thing happened on the Way to the Forum and many others. With the help and the recommendation of Prof Refeld I then went to study acting under Bill Esper at the prestigious William Esper Studio in NYC. Shortly after, I was cast as the lead Angela in the Off-Broadway musical Bellevue Sketches.

In the summer of 2009 I had the pleasure to sing with the musical stars Janet Marie Chvatal, Marc Gremm and Bruno Grassini at a musical gala in Munich. Since then I was seen in the TV Pilot The Lez Boat as the lead character Manon, in a couple of short films and in the independent movie The Surprise Party as Lena Dunn as well as in the role of Kim in the German TV series Rosa Roth in the spring of 2012. I recently finished my studies as a producer at the New York University and am now thrilled to produce my first project with my production company.

Léonie Thoms – »The little Soul and the Strawberry«
I began my musical theater studies in April 2010 in Essen at the Folkwang University of the Arts after spending one and a half years studying voice in Vienna. I will be finished at the University in 2 years during time which I will perform in the following projects, ‘A man goes through the Wall’, ‘The Witches of Eastwick’ and ‘Spring Awakening’. There are also smaller projects, dear to my heart which I am doing outside of the University like ‘Trio Diversity’ a combination of cello, piano and singing with repertoire from Chanson, Musical and Jazz.

In reflection, k4k gave me so many new impulses which enriched my life and my artistic development. Perhaps most importantly though, was the chance to work with top
professionals who trusted and believed in my abilities. All their tips and support strengthened me and gave me the chance to study in Essen and to succeed as a musical performer.
